YOUTH WEEK 2026: A WEEK OF FAITH, FELLOWSHIP AND IMPACT
YOUTH WEEK 2026: A WEEK OF FAITH, FELLOWSHIP AND IMPACT
From 27th April to 3rd May 2026, the youths of Mombasa Memorial Cathedral came together to host a vibrant and spiritually uplifting Youth Week, a fully youth-led initiative designed to deepen faith, strengthen community and actively involve young people in the life of the Church. What unfolded over the week was not just a series of events-but a powerful expression of unity, service, and purpose. The week kicked off on Monday, 27th April, with a Bible Study Movie Night held at the Youth Minister's (Rev. Heri Mimi) residence. This opening event set the tone for the week, offering a relaxed yet meaningful environment where youths engaged with scripture through film, sparking reflection and discussion in a relatable and engaging format. Momentum continued to build on Tuesday, 28th April, during the Fellowship gathering at the Youth Sanctuary. The session brought together young people in an atmosphere of worship, sharing, and connection. Reminding everyone of the importance of community in spiritual growth. On Wednesday, 29th April, the focus shifted to Mid-Week Prayers, also held in the Youth Sanctuary. This special youth week session was themed "PRAY AND PLAY", blending spiritual devotion with fellowship. It was a moment of spiritual recharge where heartfelt prayers were lifted unto the Lord, and participants found encouragement and renewal in God?s presence. Alongside the prayers, various games were played, adding a fun and engaging element that strengthened unity and made the experience both spiritually uplifting and enjoyable. The outreach dimension of Youth Week was evident on Thursday, 30th April, during the Home Fellowship Visitation at the Former Youth Chairman's Residence. This initiative extended fellowship beyond the church walls, fostering deeper relationships and demonstrating the Church?s commitment to reaching members where they are. The week then transitioned into a powerful expression of gratitude on Friday, 1st May, with the Weekly Thanksgiving Service in the Main Sanctuary. Youths actively participated in leading the service, offering thanks and celebrating God?s faithfulness throughout the week. Service took on a practical form on Saturday, 2nd May, during the Church Cleaning Exercise. Held at the Youth Sanctuary, this activity reflected the youths' dedication not just in worship, but also in stewardship-taking responsibility for maintaining the house of God. Finally, the highlight of the week came on Sunday, 3rd May, where the youths took full leadership of all church services. From ushering and praise and worship to media, coordination, and ministry, the youths demonstrated remarkable organization, passion, and spiritual maturity. It was a proud and defining moment, showcasing the vital role young people play in the present and future of the Church. A Week That Made a DifferenceYouth Week 2026 was more than an event-it was a movement led entirely by the youths, for the youths, and for the glory of God. Through intentional planning and execution, they created spaces for growth, connection, and service that left a lasting impact on everyone involved. If there's one takeaway from this week, it's clear: when young people are empowered, the Church thrives. As the curtains close on this year's Youth Week, the invitation remains open-be part of the next one. A SOLEMN WALK OF FAITH: GOOD FRIDAY AT MOMBASA MEMORIAL CATHEDRAL
A SOLEMN WALK OF FAITH: GOOD FRIDAY AT MOMBASA MEMORIAL CATHEDRAL
On the morning of April 3rd, 2026, believers gathered at Mombasa Memorial Cathedral for a deeply moving Good Friday service that began at 10:00 AM. The service was marked by reflection, unity, and a powerful public expression of faith. The Procession: Walking in His StepsThe day began with a symbolic procession through the town. Youths and congregants took turns carrying a large wooden cross, representing the journey Jesus took on His way to crucifixion. As they moved through the streets, the atmosphere was calm and reverent. People along the way paused to watch, while others joined in. The procession served as a meaningful reminder of sacrifice, endurance, and love. This act reflected the Gospel account of Jesus carrying the cross by himself to the place called Golgotha. Gathering in the SanctuaryAfter the procession, everyone returned to the main sanctuary for the continuation of the service. The shift from the streets into the church created a deeper sense of reflection and focus.Inside, the service centered on the Passion narrative, recounting the arrest, trial, suffering, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Passion StoryThe scripture reading from the Gospel of John was presented in a clear and engaging way. It followed the events from Jesus being arrested in the garden, to Peter denying Him, and finally to His trial before Pilate.Key moments stood out during the reading:Jesus boldly declared, "I am He"He told Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world"His final words on the cross were, "It is finished"These moments reminded the congregation that Good Friday is not only about suffering, but also about purpose and fulfillment. A Time of ReflectionAs the service continued, the congregation entered a quiet moment of reflection. Many bowed their heads as they considered the meaning of the cross. The earlier procession became more meaningful, as the cross symbolized the foundation of the Christian faith. More Than a ServiceThis Good Friday gathering was more than just a church event. It was:A shared expression of faithA spiritual journeyA reminder of the depth of Christ's love From the streets of Mombasa to the sanctuary, the message remained clear: the story of the cross continues to impact lives today.

YOUTH WORSHIP CIRCLE
The ACK Mombasa Memorial Cathedral Youth Sanctuary was filled with exuberance and unity as the youth gathered for a vibrant worship circle. Themed around Psalm 150:6, "Let everything that has breath praise God," the event saw an impressive turnout of young worshipers eager to express their faith through songs and fellowship. The Youth Praise and Worship Team led the congregation in an uplifting session of songs of praise and worship. The powerful melodies and heartfelt lyrics resonated deeply with everyone present, creating an atmosphere of spiritual fervor and communal joy. As the youth sang and danced, the sanctuary echoed with voices unified in worship, embodying the day's theme of universal praise. A highlight of the event was the inspiring sermon delivered by Nyambura Githaiga, the head of Evangelism & Bible Study. Titled "Why Praise Him," Githaiga's message delved into four essential aspects of worship: (a) The Where of Praise: Nyambura began by addressing the first topic: "The Where of Praise." She emphasized that God should be praised everywhere. Whether we find ourselves in the grandest of cathedrals or the simplest of homes, in the bustling city or the quiet countryside, God's presence is omnipresent, and so too should be our praise. She reminded the congregation that the earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord, and thus, there is no place unworthy of lifting His name. Every corner of creation is a potential sanctuary for worship, from our daily routines to the special moments set aside for prayer and reflection. (b) The Why of Praise: Nyambura's words grew even more fervent. She posed a simple yet profound question: Why should we praise God? The answer, she explained, lies in two fundamental reasons. First, we praise Him for His mighty deeds. Reflecting on the many miracles and acts of love documented in the Bible and witnessed in our lives, we see the hand of God at work. From creation to salvation, His deeds are mighty and worthy of our admiration and gratitude. Second, we praise Him for His excellent greatness. Beyond what He has done, God's very nature is praiseworthy. His attributes His love, mercy, wisdom, and power are beyond compare. Nyambura urged everyone to remember that praising God is not just about what He has done for us but also about who He is. (c) The How of Praise: The sermon then transitioned to "The How of Praise." Here, Nyambura passionately declared that God should be praised with everything we have. She encouraged the congregation to pour their whole selves into their worship, using every gift and talent bestowed upon them. Whether through song, dance, prayer, service, or acts of kindness, every action can be a form of praise when done with a heart full of devotion and love for God. She illustrated her point by recounting the story of King David, who danced before the Lord with all his might, undeterred by the opinions of others. This wholehearted approach to worship is what God desires from each of us. (d) The Who of Praise: Finally, Nyambura addressed "The Who of Praise." She made it abundantly clear that the only qualification for praising God is that we breathe. Quoting Psalm 150:6, she said, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." This inclusivity means that praising God is not limited to a select few but is a responsibility for every living being. As long as there is breath in our lungs, we are called to praise Him. It is not an option or a choice, but a duty and a privilege. The worship circle was described as both great and enjoyable, with the congregation fully engaged and enthusiastic throughout the event. Many attendees expressed their appreciation for the meaningful and dynamic worship experience, noting how it strengthened their faith and sense of community. As the event drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of anticipation for future gatherings. The youth of ACK Mombasa Memorial Cathedral are already looking forward to the next worship circle, eager to come together again to celebrate and praise God with the same spirit and enthusiasm.
